I did you hear that little recording button? I love it. Hi, Allie. Hi, Katie. How are you? I'm wet, like I said. It's raining quite a bit. Yeah, yeah, and you went shopping. I went shopping. In the wet and cold. Yeah, not a fun shopping. I bought trash bags.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no. Because of course, the one weekend that we get a long weekend, because when we're recording this, this is um what Memorial Day weekend.
SPEAKER_00It's the worst worst weather imaginable when the rest of the week was perfect, and now when we're able to do stuff, it's rainy and nasty. Um I think Mother Nature hates us. I think Mother Nature is she's over it. She's over it. Um, I think this is also her protesting against corporate America and capitalism. Um, and two things on that. One, we went to a wedding this weekend last year, and the bride and groom posted today, like, happy anniversary. And I took me back, and I was like, that weekend sucked too. Like last Memorial Day weekend was also awful. Did it did it rain on their wedding day?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Well, it said to be good, cold.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I don't want to be cold and rainy.
SPEAKER_00I was like, oh my god, I totally forgot about that. And then I was talking to friend of the pod, Laura, yes, yesterday, and she was telling me that they're in the middle of a heat wave in London, and it's like hot as balls, and there's no AC there. And I'm like, and they don't have a long, it's not a weekend for them, it's just a weekend. And I'm like, um, what the fuck? I've also never heard London described as hot as balls. Well, that's it's always just yes, but I've never once been like someone was like, I was in London and it was so hot. Everyone's like, I'm in London and it's raining today because London, similar to Vancouver, which I have been to in the middle of a heat wave, nothing there has air conditioning. That's crazy, so that is why it is hot as balls. Oh, European of them, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And yeah, and then you know, Canada, they're you know, ruled by the Europeans still as well. So, you know, there you go.
SPEAKER_00Like Vancouver was always traditionally mild, and then I was there in the middle of a heat wave, and I remember my poor niece came up to me one morning and was like, like as I mean, she's like, I didn't sleep last night.
SPEAKER_01Oh poor Joey.
SPEAKER_03Why, babe?
SPEAKER_00Like, did you have a nightmare? And she's like, It was so hot, and I was like, Oh god. Meanwhile, my sister had given me like the one in like window air conditioning unit, and I was like, uh oh, um, I fell off.
SPEAKER_02No, I can relate to her. I can't sleep when it's too hot. No, it's disgusting.
SPEAKER_00I I overheat to begin with, yeah, and I I can't take it. Yeah, oh gross. Okay, well, speaking of Vancouver, speaking of hot and Vancouver, the show we're about to talk about was filmed in Vancouver and there's lots of hot people in it. How much like my segue? If we did a like a if we added up all the things that we saw that we watched on this podcast that were filmed in Vancouver, everything it would be like 80%. Yeah, yeah. Like everything is filmed in Vancouver, but also everything that's like middle budget young adult is very much. Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah, if you see like a regular like rom com, that's definitely like filmed New York. Um, if you're seeing like a post-apocalyptic like I can't even think zombie that's you know filmed in the south somewhere. Yeah, yeah, but like teen dramas, I feel like they are all filmed in Vancouver. What is it? What is it about Vancouver? Like drama, like dramedies, also. I do think I think there is something to do with like tax breaks or whatever. Oh, yeah, yeah. Which I think is like legit why, but also like crazy. Yeah. No, it's so weird, it is very weird. Um, Allie, thank you for indulging me and allowing me to do this because I'm very, very excited. And we did move around our schedule for this. Yeah. Um, yeah, yes. Allie is being a very nice friend and indulging me about the fact that off-campus has become my entire personality. And it's also not only an excuse to talk about the show, but also an excuse to talk about Antonio Cipriano, who has also consumed my entire being. Yeah. Oh, there's that. So thank you so much. I really appreciate it. You're a really good friend. I am a really good friend. Um, I've always known that, but you know, this is just a nice reminder. And thank you. Let's run it back two days, yesterday, I think. That was yesterday. Yes, it was yesterday. Katie texts me and says, God, I wish we could talk about off campus instead, instead of what we had originally planned, which we will get to. Yes, we will. Um, and I said, Is it not based on a book? And she said, Well, it's based on a new adult book. And I said, Katie, we can do whatever the fuck we want. And she's right. We did a pit pod. And also new adult. I feel like we have already we have already done, we've done true children's literature, yeah. Fair, we've done young adult, like tween, we've done teen. We can do we can do new new because honestly, new adult is the bridge between young adult and adult, and it's still coming of its age. You're right, you're right, you're absolutely right.
SPEAKER_01And I think so. I think this fits quite neatly in our little theme.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And Katie was so excited when I said, girl, let's do it then. And she immediately got on Google.
SPEAKER_02Immediately, my Google Gmail notifications blew up because she was like, I yeah, I've fully changed our entire schedule so we can do this just to do it because it really it's been quite a journey. The last has it even been two weeks since the show came out? I don't know, but that's all I've thought about, including Antonio. That's all I've thought about. It's actually insane.
SPEAKER_00Well, Katie, why don't you tell us a little bit about the book series? I would love to. I would love to. So as we said, we are doing off campus. You're welcome. Why is it called that? Good question.
SPEAKER_01Are you gonna answer that question?
SPEAKER_02Well, so off campus, it is the name of the like book series.
SPEAKER_00So the first book is called The Deal, which is like the first book in the off-campus book series. Also, what the pilot was titled. Yes, it was, and I think it's honestly just because like the boys like live off campus.
SPEAKER_02Like, like nobody's like living in a dorm. I don't know, honestly. That's that's what I that's my take on it. I have no idea. Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I did I did I lived off campus when I was a junior. Is that what I yeah? We all lived off campus. I think that's why they're like, oh, it's college, but they're not on campus, they're off campus, they're not on campus.
SPEAKER_02So like they're go they can be allowed to have parties and like ragers and shit. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Okay, maybe maybe that's why.
SPEAKER_02I honestly don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. We can ask who's the author, Katie. Thank you so much, Ellie. The author is L Kennedy, and the deal, the first book, is like the first of four, maybe five. I think she's written a couple of like spin-offs, novellas, whatever. But the first four are like the main part of the series, and each of the four boys that we meet, they each have their own book and their own love story. Okay. So this first one is Garrett and Hannah, which is what we get for the show. So let me read a little Goodread synopsis, Katie. I have been dying to hear you read a Goodread synopsis. Kelly's like, what is this book about?
SPEAKER_01I was like, what am I watching? So please describe to me what I was watching.
SPEAKER_02I would love to. And I also I read this, and this is not what happened on the show, but for the most part, yes. But you I also can't wait to tell you about the book in general. Okay, because I have a lot of thoughts.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you've already read the first book because you told me you were reading the second one.
SPEAKER_00I did not read the first book, I was going to and then I got turned off to it because I didn't like how the men were written. It was very, very misogynistic, and I hated it. And it didn't feel like it was written by a woman, which was which was weird.
SPEAKER_02And so I ended up reading the second one because that's Logan's book, and I'm deranged and obsessed with Logan.
SPEAKER_00But like, but like TV Logan, TV character Logan. That is something I have something I noticed, I have noticed in a few books written by women.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I don't know if it's them struggling and trying to be a man or if it's their own inherent misogyny.
SPEAKER_00I think it's both, honestly. When I was even like reading like Logan's book, I was like, I don't like you. Yeah. But like on the show, I'm like, oh, these are men and are men written by women.
SPEAKER_02Whereas like in the book of Men Written by Women, I was like, this doesn't this feels like a man wrote this about college boys, yeah, are horny all the time and obsessed with women and getting laid.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so yeah, those are my thoughts on the book.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but yeah, I did only read the second one, and then also too. I also didn't finish the first one because I was like, Well, I just watched the show and I know what happens, so like I didn't really feel like I needed to.
SPEAKER_00I feel like you don't need to watch the show to know what happens, not to watch the show to know what happens, you don't you just need to watch the trailer of the show to know what did I what watch the trailer?
SPEAKER_02Probably did, I don't even know. Did it did it give everything away?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, I just recently saw a movie trailer for some new Zoe Deutsch movie, and it gave the entire movie a word with Nick Robinson who I love I love Nick Robinson. Iowa, I am so excited for that movie.
SPEAKER_02I'm so excited, but like that trailer, it gave you the entire movie. You saw the entire movie in the trailer.
SPEAKER_00That one I don't care about because Nick Robinson can do no wrong, and I am already seated waiting for that movie. So I would say Iowa Deborah, I'm too seated. The theater employees are telling me it's not X date, but I don't care. I'm all I'm too seated. Not at all. Yeah, yeah, no, ready for that. But that trailer played the entire movie. Also, dumb title. What was it called again? It's called like voicemails for Isabel. Oh, that's right. Because and I'm like, I think we could have come up with something better than that. That's not very good. Yeah, I have beef with like movie titles sometimes, especially rom coms. I'm like, you could have tried harder. Like some they just it they just need a little like quirk, a little silly, a little fun. How to lose a guy in 10 days. My best friend, my best friend's wedding, like fun, but letters to Isabel just sounds sad. No, voicemails, voicemails, right. Letters. I was thinking letters to Julia. That movie sucked. That movie did suck. Voicemails for Isabelle's. Like, what is talking about? That sounds awful. Terrible title. Why are you leaving her voicemail? Which we're gonna do, yeah. Terrible title, anyway. Okay, book synopsis. Also, never apologize to me. Women should never have to apologize. I'm gonna tell hey Phil. Hey Phil, women should never have to apologize because we do know wrong. We've no I certainly haven't.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've never once done anything wrong. No, and therefore never had to apologize. Nope. Anyway, okay. I was just rereading this quickly, and it sounds so dumb. Um Allie's like, I can't wait to tell you how dumb I think this is. And Allie's gonna, Allie's gonna, you know, make me feel really bad about this.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, no, no, no. I won't understand. No, I'm not gonna do that.
SPEAKER_02I I know you well enough, Allie.
SPEAKER_00I can tell how you feel about this. So, book synopsis. She's about to make a deal with the college bad boy. Hannuells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she's carding around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush's attention, she'll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice, even if it means tutoring the annoying childish cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date. And it's going to be oh so good. Who wrote this? Ugh. Okay. All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he's worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous while helping secure his position on the team, he's all for it.
SPEAKER_02But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn't take long for Garrett to realize that pretending isn't going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah the man she wants looks a lot like him. We do have to talk about these like book tropes. Oh we do have to talk about this.
SPEAKER_00We do have they I actually have a lot to say about that. I yeah, I figured. I also too. Can I tell you quickly about the author? Yes. Okay. So she is a New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal best-selling author. She grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario, and got a BA in English from York University. Um, from an early age, she wanted to be a writer and actually began pursuing that dream when she was a teenager. I should have been doing that as a teen. I haven't done it, you know?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She is the author of more than 50 contemporary fiction or romance novels published by a variety of major houses.
SPEAKER_02And her work includes off-campus series, the global phenomenon, which has captivated millions of readers around the world.
SPEAKER_00And this also too is why I don't read romance because it's just like let's just write a bunch of sex scenes all the time, and you're like and call it romance, you know. Have a lot to say about that as well. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I I love a romance within like a true plot, you know, like I don't need it to be the whole thing. So this is something I actually basically prepped for this podcast in that I talked about off-campus with Laura for a while yesterday. Okay.
SPEAKER_01And we were saying, okay, when you were a teenager, and like maybe even like in college, what kind of books were you reading?
SPEAKER_00I the one that I vividly remember when I was in college, so I graduated in 2013. I remember like freshman or sophomore year. I vivid remember my friend was like, you need to read the Hunger Games. And that's when I read The Hunger Games. But but I honestly don't I don't know what I was reading in college. Okay. I don't it definitely wasn't books like this, though. Okay, it wasn't exactly it wasn't this, and like the Hunger Games, yeah. That was a com that was a cultural phenomenon. That was different. This is that was an actual cultural phenomenon. I was talking I mean it was like the host, it was like a little bit smaller than the host. Like the host, which will come out shoot after this. We haven't done the host. Wait until we get to the host you guys. Wait till we get the host, guys are the host. That's our favorite episode. That's my favorite episode, though. Guys, just look at us. Look at us um when okay. I read a few romances, yeah, primarily in middle school, and like middle late middle school, like high school, and it was exclusively Sarah Desson. Yes, oh yeah, I love I think I was reading her in high school too. I loved Sarah Desson, I loved Sarah Desson books, yeah. And I did read many other books that featured romance, yeah, but it was not, and I did love that. Like I loved I mean, hell, I read The Hungry Games, and my favorite takeaway was Pila and Canada. Like that was down for that. I love reading about people falling in love, absolutely, but I was reading about like the main genre was rarely romance, same, yes, yeah. And then when I was a young adult, when I was in high school, I was reading books for adults, like I wasn't reading art books for adults, like I'm thinking I was reading like off the top of my head, I remember I read One Day in high school. I remember I read um Confessions of a Shopaholic. I think I read The Devil Wars Krana, like I read um, which I saw the second movie last night. Um Marley and me. I'm just gonna be all these like books, but like you know, like books like that, they weren't particularly difficult reads. They were about, but they were for adults. Yes, yeah. I was reading adult book. I mean, and then I was I'm I was also reading like Jane Austen, and I was I was reading every book that was assigned to me in high school, to be clear. I was that kid in English, absolutely, yeah. Same thing. Um, yeah, they're forcing you know to read about Holden Caulfield, and I was like, I hate that dude. Yeah, like I was reading the Scarlet Letter, I was reading Absolutely, but I was reading adults that or adults, I was reading books that were written for adults, and like the young adult books were like young adult was very much like tween, and then you went right to like kind of adult, yeah. Which yeah, I'm not gonna say I have beef with this like new adult genre, I think it makes sense, I think it's like a good idea. However, these kinds of books that are all sex, all trope, yeah, with the cartoon cover, which I do not exist. That's see, also those covers are the reason I don't pick up those books.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_00I don't pick up romance books because they have terrible covers and they all look the same. I think the cartoon-drawn covers, I who's whoever idea was that that's a terrible idea. So I read a few, I read two Emily Henry books when I was on vacation a few weeks ago. Ugh, I love Emily Henry, and I did really enjoy it. Yeah, a lot like smuttier than I was expecting. Yeah. Um, which everyone's like, oh yeah, it's like sexy. And I was like, girl, I was reading like fanfiction when I was 14. I was like, I know. I know it's smudding. I know, and then we get there, and I was like, wait, oh, this actually is like okay. Um but even Emily Henry, it's like when I think back to the Saradeson books I read and I loved, there wasn't a trope. Yeah, it was two characters who you just watched them fall in love. Like my favorite Emily, my favorite Sarah Dessen book was The Truth About Forever. I don't know if you read that one. Um, it was about the girl who was like used to be a runner and her dad died, and then she like works at this catering company and like slowly falls in love with like one of the guys who also works there, and like he has this past and his mom had died, and they like bond over that. And I'm like, what would that quote unquote trope even be? Like forced proximity, like co-workers to lover. Like, what is that? That wasn't a thing, yeah. And now it's like everybody is a trope. It's like it used to be it felt like it was characters were created and then their story.
SPEAKER_01Now it feels like an author like picks a trope and then like hand fisps characters into it, and that let's be honest, that's exactly what L Kennedy did.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for all four of these books. They each are each of these couples comes from a different trope. And like it's the fanfiction of literature, which to be clear, I am not anti-fanfiction.
SPEAKER_01I think fanfiction is great. Fanfiction is great. I think anytime that art is inspired, it if art moves you so much that you create other art from it, that's beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Um, I think it creates beautiful communities. I used to read it when I was like younger, I loved it. Like, but it it was like we took away the shame from it, which is like good. Like, I don't think people should feel shame for that. But then it just like became pop culture, and it's like all the worst parts of it are what became popular.
SPEAKER_01Like the shittiest fan fictions became popular.
SPEAKER_00Like I would I ha read the shittiest fanfic like I I but I've read fanfiction that like made me sob. I have read I have read fanfiction that was better than many books that I have read. Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. But then there's like this, which is just like the tropification of it. And like that's what has become popular now. Yeah, yeah. And when I was reading this book, I literally was like, why is this so popular? Or like why was it so popular when it came out? I I I couldn't tell you, I have no idea. And it feels like fan fiction in a bad way, yeah, in a really bad way, which is detriment rude and disrespectful to fanfiction, but like that's what it feels like. Yeah, yeah. I don't I don't know. Yeah, that that's why I feel like at least for the show, I know you did only watch the pilot, yeah. The show and the characters, especially the guys on the show, are written so much better than how they're described in this one book that I read. And I honestly, I honestly went into the show being like, oh, I'm probably only gonna end up liking the main guy. Like his friends are gonna be terrible, like frat bros, I'm gonna hate them. Just because I feel like that's what we're always given when we read when we read books like this or watch shows like this. And just by from the first second episode, I loved all of them because they were written well, and Ellie says no. Were they written well or were they just not assholes? Because there's I I see them as like legit men written by women, which I think is good. But does that mean but are they like full-bodied characters? Yes, yes, really, yeah. They each they each get their own story in this show. Yeah, no, I think they are full-bodied characters for sure. Okay, well, I've only seen the pilot, yeah. I believe yeah, yeah, yeah. I just spent like I Googled after, I was like, so what is this fan fiction of? Like one direction, like what is this fan fiction of? And Google told me that this did not start off as fan, and I just don't believe that. I I'm sorry, I don't believe that. This is from Wattpad.
SPEAKER_02Uh honestly, it felt like it.
SPEAKER_00It absolutely felt like it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. No, like the show didn't to me, but the book that I read to, I was like, what is we're gonna agree to disagree on this. Also, I think in this case, your opinion is skewed because you only watch the one episode.
SPEAKER_00That is true. You didn't get to see them have any character development yet. That is true, yeah. Um which is hard about us doing pilots for TV shows. It is, it is, yeah. I am like a fourth generation snob on my father's side, specifically on your father's side, yeah, yeah. I I mean that wholeheartedly. I am a fourth generation snob on my father's side. Everyone on my father's side of the family is a total snob. We are all snobs, and I inherited that from him, so I really struggle.
SPEAKER_01I struggle, I really struggle, I really struggle with this.
SPEAKER_00This is so funny to me.
SPEAKER_01I if if I'm watching a TV show and the acting isn't good, I'm like, why would I spend my life watching this?
SPEAKER_00Like I'm gonna guys disagree. I am I try to love, but I am a hater. I hate trashy entertainment.
SPEAKER_02I'm sorry, I hate I don't consider it trashy, but you're allowed to have that opinion that's a lot of people.
SPEAKER_00Is that what you think this is? It's like one step above.
SPEAKER_02I I think you're just turned off by the major trope of it. I think that's what you are.
SPEAKER_00I think that the the the acting was not good. I think the the set the writing was not good. I think that the and I'm not saying that the actors in it are bad at this. I think like we got we have two pit alums in this show, and they were my favorites. We do. Um who's the second one? We've got Mateo, and then we've got Girl Who Overdosed on Fentanyl. Oh, that's right, Allie. Yes. Um, thank you. And oh yeah, she was in that episode. I forgot that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I I mean they're both phenomenal in the pit. I saw I've seen that girl also in another movie that I was forced to watch where she was also like a poorly written manic pixie dream girl, and she did her best, and it was uh so that and it was like okay, and then I saw her in the pit and I was like, wow, she's really good in the pit.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, oh, it's because the pit is written well.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yeah, yeah. But this show was written for an audience that they know exactly is gonna be into this thing. It doesn't need to be anything other than what it is, but no, I reject that. Why can't it be the best that it can be? I think that's what I think that's what it is, though. I think it's trying to I think it is the best that it can be. No, I think that it's do you really do you really give it enough credit that it could be better than what you think? Absolutely. I don't know about that. It they're absolute I I teen shows have always been like kind of dumb and silly, and they've still had intriguing parts and better writing than this.
SPEAKER_02This show got a 93%. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00It was writ it was by who? By the people that reviewed it. On Ron to me, the critics the critics gave it a 93%. Okay, but again, I've only seen the pilot. I'm just you don't have a full-fledged opinion. It was written for the the 19-year-olds who use Chat GPT and don't look up from their phone, and it could be better, and I think that we should demand better. I do this but also, but again, it could also be the flaw of the pilot. Of like some pilots are very terribly written, but the rest of the show is better. Are you saying that the pilot would like how much better is the rest of the show than the pilot? I think the show's good. But what did you think of the pilot versus the rest of the pilot? I liked it. I liked it. I immediately liked everyone. I immediately liked all of the pilot. I say that the pilot was painful and bad, but you're saying, oh, if you keep watching, it'll be good. And I'm like, well, I already didn't, but you liked the pilot. Yeah. So wouldn't I not like the rest of it if I didn't like the pilot? I'm not saying that. I'm saying it might change your mind. But you also don't believe it will, so you're not going to. You're not going to watch it. I already know that. I'm not. I already know that.
SPEAKER_02No. Also, I was a little bit apprehensive when it came out. I was like, that looks stupid. Why would I watch that? And then I did watch it and loved it.
SPEAKER_00I literally watched it in one night. I watched it all. We only have so many years on this planet. We do when you're missing out. And that's all I'm saying. There's better out there. I'm not saying there's not better out there. Of course there is. Of course there's better. I could instead of watching this, I could watch Gilmore Girls for a 50th time. I also don't want to do that. I'm not going to do that. Uh yeah. No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. No, I knew this was gonna happen. I knew this was going to happen. And I knew this was gonna happen because I was like, oh, maybe I should try watching that. And then it gets down to it.
SPEAKER_02We talked about it before, and you're like, have you watched that yet? And I was like, no, not yet. We did talk about it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, Oh, also, what's her face? Because we also just recently saw Becky Shaw, the main girl, she's also in an episode of this. She's like in episode like seven or something. Madeline Brewer? No. The other girl. I don't consider Becky Shaw the main girl. The other girl. Oh, Susanna. Yes. Yeah, she's an episode of this. You have to understand that. We have two Broadway right on the show. Right before I watched the show. I watched Hamnet. Well, why would you watch those back to back?
SPEAKER_02I watched Hamnet. Of course, it can be like this. I watched what am I watching?
SPEAKER_00Hamnet the night before, and then I watched this. Hamnet is so good. Oh, I actually also have thoughts on Hamnet. Um you don't have time for that. Okay, but you have to understand. Because you don't want to talk about this. Clearly, I'm not allowing you to get out of it.
SPEAKER_02Because you agreed to this.
SPEAKER_00You have to understand. You have to understand. Listen, listen, listen, listen. I don't want to be like this. I want. Okay, I'll watch. I'll watch. I'll try I'm gonna try the second episode. For you, Katie, because that's how much I love you. And if you don't like it, don't tell me. Okay, but I'm gonna I'm gonna watch the second episode for you. Okay, okay. I'm trying to think of what happens. The way that everything was shot. Let's talk about the more specific stuff. The way that everything and everyone's body was shot. I thought everyone was just gonna have an orgy at all times.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Um, let me pull out my notes.
SPEAKER_02There, oh my god. Okay. So I have a lot of major takeaways from this pilot. And one of them was specifically every time Hannah looked at Justin, I was like, girl, close your mouth.
SPEAKER_00You look like you're having an orgasm. But I was like, girl, stop. Okay, every time she looked at Justin, I was like, girl, be so serious.
SPEAKER_03No, no, girl, he was wearing a full leather, no, not that. Look at him.
SPEAKER_00He was wearing a full leather studded fit, and she's like, I'm like, he's a cool guy, Allie. He's a rock star. Yeah, I was oh hilarious. If you could see my face right now, um I can see it. That's all that matters. I'm like, you need to get it together. You need to get it together. I'm like being so serious.
SPEAKER_02You don't you don't think he's cool?
SPEAKER_00No, it's so funny.
SPEAKER_02No, you would be like, I'm not into that.
SPEAKER_00If that man looked at me, I'd be like, he's like a good looking guy. Oh, absolutely. But it's the way that he's styled. Oh, yeah, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely repulsive to me. I'm sorry. I I'm very basic. I love I love like a basic, like slightly jock, like classic primary colors. You're describing Jake Crew.
SPEAKER_02You're just no I'm describing Logan.
SPEAKER_00I'm describing Phil. I'm describing like you're describing John Logan. I'm describing like I was describing Phil. I like like brand like just shirt, nice brandless shirt, pants, like no like nothing, like clean cut, no. I'm sorry, you're describing Logan, but whatever. Has like a beard. Okay, whatever. I need to learn more. You did say clean cut, but whatever. I mean, I'm just not not. I like a beard. I'm just saying I don't like a beard because Phil is a redhead, so his beard is kind of sad. That would be crazy. Yeah. I I just have to say on the record, he's not allowed to have one. No, no, no, no, no, no. No. We we know what that would look like. He looked like Mitch for Modern Family. Yeah, and it's not allowed. And it's not allowed. It's not allowed. Um he'd look like Mitch. He'd look like Mitch. He definitely would. My immediate, immediate first thought watching this pilot was how is she in charge of both the snack bar and cleaning the locker room? Those are different jobs. Fair. She might well, she does have three jobs. She says at one point that she has three jobs. But her job at the rink, you're right, those are different jobs. I love her and you know, whatever. I love when people work at Ice Rinks because it just makes me think of Ice Princess starring Michelle Schrappenberg, my favorite movie ever, when I was nine years old. R.A.P.
SPEAKER_01R.A.P.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But if she didn't have the cleaning of the locker room job, she wouldn't get to see Garrett's junk. So, you know. Also, I was like, girl, it's also when I think about them being at like the rink, I'm like, even if you work there and even if you're like a hockey player, are you allowed to be there after hours? I would think you wouldn't be.
SPEAKER_00I know, like why was it working? No one else was there. That's not a shift time. No, no, unless you like opening it up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, unless and I get I get maybe if they're like, oh yeah, this we're a big hockey school, we should let the hockey players practice whenever, maybe.
SPEAKER_00But I'm like, why is she working like the night shift here by herself?
SPEAKER_01Well, I assumed it was like crazy early in the morning and she was like, I mean, oh, it could be.
SPEAKER_00You're right, yeah. Maybe it was really early. That was my assumption. But even it was really early and they have like an early practice, which they do, wouldn't they all be there? You know, so like so when was this? I did love when they had a game, and instead of like going to the school gym or like going to the rink to to warm up, they just like warmed up in their backyard together. And I'm like, yeah, the coach definitely doesn't need you all to like warm up together. Can I tell you that that workout scene was made for the feminine gaze? Oh, I am wait, what did I write about it? I am here for it and I say thank you. I think I just wrote Orgy.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I'm also just like this also is very, you know, it's very reminiscent of very reminiscent of Top Gun and the volleyball team.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, more of them should be shirtless, and this should be more homoerotic. But if this is what we get, I'm here for it. Everything was like delicately homoerotic. Yes, they are they are all the four of them are very slightly homoerotic all the time, all the time. Yeah, yeah. There was an ass slap, it like really like it started it, you know. Yeah, and like he comes out like that. Was my first orgy question mark when yes, I literally are these boys about to have an orgy when blonde man comes out of the shower naked, and he's like, You guys don't want me to come downstairs naked, and they're all like they're like, Maybe they're like you want to. Oh, I and I was kind of like, Oh, what's gonna happen? I was like, Oh, you're like this is fun house, and like this isn't what I was told the show was. Let's see, it's gonna have to be like straight hockey romance.
SPEAKER_02No, thank you.
SPEAKER_00I turned it on, and Phil was like, Oh, are you watching the gay hockey show finally? And I said, No, it's a straight one, and he said they made a straight one. I said, The gay one's excellent, yeah, excellent. That also gave me my personality for a minute.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, oh my god, I love that show.
SPEAKER_00Um anyway, I did say I do appreciate how much they're whoring out the men. Yep, written by women, thank you. Thank you. Um one of my favorite parts was when man, main man Garrett is taught Garrett Graham. What the fuck kind of name is that? I always um what is it called when your your like first and last name have the same letter? What's the alliteration? That's it. I hate I hate that. I also hate that there are a few letters that it like kind of gets away with, and I I still don't like it though, but I really hate when the like those are both first and last names, yeah. Um also so is Logan, like his name is John Logan. Okay, but that's something that John is like never a just a last name. That's not a last name. So Graham, yes, you're right. Graham is a first and a last name, yeah. Yeah, you definitely could have Graham Garrett, like that could also be a good one. Yeah, that's a name. So I yeah, I I hate when the first and last name are it could be either, it's very confusing for teachers and everyone, especially when it's a situation where a lot of them are referred to by their last name, yeah. And you're like, wait, is that their first name? Like if his just I don't, yeah, like I it just bothers me, yeah, but whatever. Um, but I did love when Garrett was doing something.
SPEAKER_01I was yeah, so he comes up to Hannah, Pit Girl, and then their other friend.
SPEAKER_00Pit girl, Allie. She has your name.
SPEAKER_01No, she doesn't no, she doesn't. Her name is Allie. No, she doesn't. So then it's not my name.
SPEAKER_00Um, it is you. And I do appreciate that she's a theater girl. She is a theater girl, and it made me and pit girl Allie was like, Oh, are you gonna like like can we help you?
SPEAKER_01Because you know, the school's already donating all of its money to the sports.
SPEAKER_00Meanwhile, the theater department is falling apart, and then 30 seconds later, we cut to the performing arts building, and it was built clearly in the last six months, and it is the most beautiful modern traditional like Vancouver architecture. Like, that building cannot be older than a year, and I'm like, so Ellie's like we deserve better.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, that's what I mean when like let's think about what we're writing, yeah.
SPEAKER_02They're like, oh wait, it's actually a really nice building.
SPEAKER_00That's beautiful, literally floor to ceiling windows, like yeah, what like gorgeous? Oh my god, the auditorium that she plays in with her team. Oh, yeah. Who was that conductor? He looked so familiar to me. Also, I don't wait. When they're performing in what when she's like playing the clarinet. Oh, that's right. That is the successor. Yeah, I've seen him and other stuff too. The most beautiful auditorium, unless I've ever seen unless Ali specifically means like the theater department, and nothing. No, we're not gonna, we're not gonna do that. No, I'm sure it might have been, you know. She's like maybe we don't have funding. No, I don't know. No, I'm like the professor. Who is this? He looked so familiar to me. He's definitely I've seen him in some. Yeah, I definitely have seen him somewhere. My first note of this definitely started as fan fiction now. And I just said, I feel uncomfortable. I love this for you. Um what was he? Um, when Gary dead to me, that's I think that's what I know. Love he dated what's her face, whatever her name is. Yes, he did. He did. Um second season, or maybe was he their first season? I don't remember.
unknownI don't remember.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. But yeah, yeah, you're right. I remember that now. That's up. Um I feel like he was a cop too. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Um yeah, like the introduction of introduction of the professor who helps you realize your full potential. We love that. We do love that in a teacher.
SPEAKER_01The sex scene of Graham Garrett, Garrett Graham, and what with Kendall.
SPEAKER_00With Kendall. With Kendall. Her name is Kendall. No, it's not throwback to a hilarious joke in Devil Wars Prada 2 that I watched last night where Emily Blunt is like, oh, we're gonna fight because I got Kendall for like the closing show, because she's a Dior now, and then her boyfriend, who is an amalgamation of Elon Musk, Brian Johnson, Mark Zuckerberg. No, he was an indictment of tech bros. I guess, but I was like, we don't need him.
SPEAKER_03No, it was the whole point of like our society is now run by these evil tech bros.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, but I'm like, did we need that?
SPEAKER_03Yes, it was cultural commentary.
SPEAKER_02I guess he was useless for me, but okay.
SPEAKER_00But then what okay that we're not talking about that movie, Katie? I think we're just at odds today.
SPEAKER_02I knew we were going to be.
SPEAKER_03What do you mean? That the beautiful thing about Devil Wars Prada 2 is a total takedown of just like this capitalist structure that's enabling like all these tech fascists to take over our world.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, sure. So we needed that character to drive the plot. Okay. But it was necessary. Fine, fine. We're not talking about Dover's product too. We're gonna fight. It Katie. I'm not in a fight. Oh my god. We're in a fight. Um anyway. Garrett Graham Graham Gra Garrett was having sex with Candle, which is what with Candle. That's what he that was the joke I was referencing. And he was like, What kind of name is Candle anyway? And it did make me laugh out loud. Um, and he was having sex with Candle, and I was not prepared for the amount of nudity. I thought we were purely seeing butts.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, we saw nips, we saw.
SPEAKER_00And then I was like, Oh, yeah, this is new adult, very horny, very naked. Yes, everyone is very naked. Yeah. Um, nobody pees after sex in rom-coms. Always bothers me. I really should. They made they made a point that of that in the summer it turned pretty. It's the only time I've ever heard because some year old girl is gonna watch this, and then she's gonna get a UTI. That's also the trouble with our education system when they're like, let's not actually give anyone proper sex education. No condom. Yeah, no nothing. Well, we at least know that Dean's using condoms because it's constantly clogging up the drains that Logan's having to unclog. Well, we have no evidence that we have no evidence that Graham Garrett Garrett Garrett Garrett Graham uses them. Graham Garrett Garrett Graham. Um apparently not. Okay. Um that was all I had to say about them. Okay, great. I was just like, whoa, you know that meme that's like, whoa, I thought this was a classy party. That means like, whoa.
SPEAKER_02Well, Allie was like, I knew this wasn't a classy party. I knew this wasn't a classy party.
SPEAKER_00I just wasn't expecting this. Yeah, um, I said everyone is so naked and everyone is wearing so much makeup. Yeah. In particular, the brows are sharpieed on the women. Yeah. I think the girl playing Hannah has naturally dark brows, but who boy did they and it made me laugh when Allie Pitt was came in and was like, let's get you're not ready, you're in bed. She's in, meanwhile, she's in full fucking glam at 8 a.m. on a Thursday, and she's like, Come on, I'll do your makeup. And I'm like, her makeup's already done. I'm like, you could have tried a little harder to make it like a subtle makeup because she's wearing the heaviest eyeliner and the heaviest tattooed on and the heaviest brows and like lip liner. So she can't exist in the world without her brows being done, Allie. You know that. Okay, listen, I'm I can't leave the house without my eyebrows being brushed out. Yeah, but I don't need to do that, I just need to brush them out. Some people need to do them. I will say the girl who plays Hannah has the cutest hair, like it was so cute, it was adorable. I was like, should I cut my hair then? It's so it's also so shiny. Her hair is like so nice. I mean, both the girls had amazing hair. Yes. Oh my god, Allie's haircut. Oh, I feel like only she could pull that up. It was unrealistic in that no one has hair that good in college. Like nobody has hair that like beautiful and voluminous that is done that well in college. People did have Hannah's hair because it was like just natural and like straightening your hair that everyone could do that. But no one has hair as nice as Allie's in college. Everybody is like it is fried within an inch of their life. Yeah, nobody is conditioning, it looks good, everybody is blonde when they shouldn't be.
SPEAKER_02Like it is no one's a natural blonde in college.
SPEAKER_00Every girl is in her blonde phase in college, and then it takes the bravery of their friend me to be like, girl, me, it's okay, it's okay to have brown hair.
SPEAKER_01I know that you think it's not, but it is. It's really okay.
SPEAKER_00You're still beautiful, you'll still find love, even if you have brown hair.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. That's also why they so the actor who plays Dean, who is the blonde, he's actually brunette, and they all were they all were like they all were no idea there's too many dark-haired people on the show.
SPEAKER_00So they gave him like the first one.
SPEAKER_02I think Dean, yeah, I'm pretty sure Dean is blonde in the book, but like they're like, yeah, you could you could see his roots.
SPEAKER_00That was a terrible dye job.
SPEAKER_02That was like the worst roots. It was grown up.
SPEAKER_03That was the worst dye job I've done.
SPEAKER_02When he came to college, he uh dyed his hair.
SPEAKER_03No, horrific dye job.
SPEAKER_00I was like, guys, what are we doing?
SPEAKER_02I wonder if it was like destroyed his hair, which it probably did.
SPEAKER_00They used the entire budget on the girl's hair, and then we're like, uh, we have a bottle of bleach.
SPEAKER_02They're like, shit, we need one of you to be blonde.
SPEAKER_00And I'm like, okay, yeah, no, that was a terrible dye job because I normally like blonde men, you know this. Yeah, and like I don't. I was like, what are we doing?
SPEAKER_02What's going on? You normally like blonde men, but you're like, I know that's not natural, so that's why you didn't like it.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it no, it was just that it was so bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is bad. Um, but the girls had beautiful, beautiful hair.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, their hair was amazing.
SPEAKER_00Every time I saw Hannah's hair, I was like, God, it really made me want to hair. Yeah, she's 19. I have read a lot of discourse about that. Yeah, she is an adult, so you know. Um, they I do know that because I've watched the whole show, the sex scenes that she's in later, she is never nude. So it's only the adult 20-something women whose boobs you see. So we never see hers.
SPEAKER_04So if anything.
SPEAKER_00But why did we cast a 19-year-old? Apparently, she was the best. I am not the casting director of this show. Because you also don't know who the other options were. She maybe had the best chemistry with Graham Garrett, Garrett Graham, which apparently is one of the reasons why they cast them. Who is 28, by the way? I did. It was funny. Like I said, Phil was walking in and out. I was watching that, and he pointed to Hannah and he was like, Has she had like a ton of work done? And I was like, No, she's just like actually young. She's just actually young. He was like, She just had like no wrinkles on her forehead, so I just assumed she had gotten work done. I'm like, no, she's just like 19. No, she's just 19 years old, and also British, which really made me laugh. Um, she had a ton of work. I was like, just actually a young person.
SPEAKER_02She's just actually a college-age person.
SPEAKER_00That's hilarious. But I do see when she's acting next to these like 30-year-olds, you're like, oh, she isn't have these like deep forehead wrinkles when she moves her eyebrows.
SPEAKER_03So did she get work done? It's like, no, they might have.
SPEAKER_00So shout out to being 19. Um, to be 19. Whew, that was not a good time for me.
SPEAKER_02I looked like I was like 14 when I was 19.
SPEAKER_00You still look like you're 14. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02One of my new co-workers, she liked started only like a month ago or something like that, and she was trying to figure out how old I was, and she of course didn't guess it, and she was shocked to find out that I was 35. She was like, I thought you were like 26, and I was like, Thank you. So, you know.
SPEAKER_00Um, must be nice, must be nice.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_00It's a benefit of having melanin and good jeans. I just got the snob jean. Um, yeah, Ellie's a snob jean. I have black don't crack, so you know. So you you lose some, you lose some for me. Ellie's like, I'm gonna have wrinkles. I'm like, I'm gonna have wrinkles and I'm gonna be bitch.
SPEAKER_02And that's you're gonna be a snobby bitch with wrinkles, and you're like, and it's because I have wrinkles, and I'm gonna be all have wrinkles at some point.
SPEAKER_00I'll just be like 80 when I have them, you know. I hate you. Um I will say when I was 19, I was severely overdoing my eyebrows. So very realistic to the show.
SPEAKER_02Hey, you know, this I think the books were when were they published, like 2015 or something like that? Like, I don't think this is supposed to take place in 2015, but that would like maybe make sense if that was like the time they were doing this.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, no, if I sent you a picture of my eyebrows from that era, you'd be like, oh girl. You should send them to send them to me right now. I'm gonna not. Um, I have a question, and I'm curious if there's more evidence later in the season to clarify. What class are they in together? Um philosophy class. Uh yeah, okay. Because I was very confused what class would be so hard and part of Garrett's major, and part of Garrett's major that they would share, and that only she would get a good paper or a good score on the paper, yeah, but that would also have an oral presentation. Yeah. Does philosophy track? I don't know. I never took philosophy. I did take philosophy, and that's actually the best grade I ever got in my entire academic career was in philosophy. Do you have to do an oral presentation? I did not, but I wrote a lot of papers, and can can I tell you what their oral presentation is that they end up studying for?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So they essentially have to obviously study several sub-philosophers and whatever. Um, and so the professor on the day of the oral presentation has a big giant wheel that she spins to land on a random philosopher, and then she like asks a question of them like on the spot that they would have to like answer based on what that philosopher believes in.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was like, that would be a very hard class. I can't remember what he asked, but she asked Garrett, though. Oh no, she she asked about like the so he landed on Kierkegaard and she asked about the morality of ghosting someone based on what Kierkegaard would think. So he had to put them on the spot of what Kierkegaard would think about ghosting.
SPEAKER_00See, I love that. I would love to do that. That'd be fucking hard. That'd be fun. But you'd have to, yeah, you would just you would really have to know your shit in order to do that on the spot. Yeah, but yeah. No, I loved philosophy. It was like low-key acting. Um yeah, I really like the philosophy. Um what else did I have? Let's open my phone. Um wasn't expecting dad to be abusive. Yep. That was a twist. I was like, Van from Reba would never do that.
SPEAKER_02You're like, he would never also never watch Reba.
SPEAKER_00I I never watched Shameless, which is how I know a lot of people know him. Oh, yeah, I've also never watched that. But I Reba was on ABC Family when I got home from school in like elementary and middle school, so I I've seen a lot of Reba, and that's who he is to me. He's always Van from Reba.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So shout out to Van. Um, what room? Okay, she went into that room after she saw which I I do know that she was raped. Like, that is the reveal.
SPEAKER_02She she saw her high school rapist, she saw her rapist, and then she like went into a room to like have a moment.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I understood when I saw like the mirrors, I was like, okay, this is and it said green room. It was like getting ready. Okay, I was like, cool, cool, cool. And then the cassette player, I was like, Oh, yeah, sure, like I'll buy that.
SPEAKER_01Like, I'll buy that. Why the fuck was there a baby grand piano in there?
SPEAKER_00Good question. I couldn't tell you that.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. It was so that she could sing bitches back, but other than that, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01What why the fuck is there a baby grand piano in in the green room?
SPEAKER_02Who's to say? Maybe you just haven't been in a green room that has one. Maybe all the green rooms are missing out on having a baby grand. I also love that it was a baby grand. Yeah, it wasn't regular piano.
SPEAKER_00If there was a reason to have it in there, if there had been like a keyboard, I would have been like that. Like someone was leaving this in here, like someone was storing it in.
SPEAKER_03Uh baby grand baby grand at second hand, my baby grand.
SPEAKER_00Don't know what that is. This one's smash. Um, I've never watched that, never will. You're missing out.
SPEAKER_02That's what I said about this.
SPEAKER_00Why will you never watch it? Because I don't want to. What's terrible, Katie? It's not. I'm telling you, this is not. This is because he I'm telling you, Smash is terrible. No, smash is great because they're actually good actors. Lies. There's actually great actors, and the music is so good. Hey, they have some great songs in this show. No, they have some good performances. The dude who you hate performs because he's a singer.
SPEAKER_02Justin, who you hate, is a singer and sings, and that's why Hannah's in love with him for some reason.
SPEAKER_00I am always like, oh, I would love it if a guy was a singer, but I don't want him to sing to me because I can't handle that. But if you're performing something, great. I will come see your show. I will come see your musical that you're in. It'll be great. No, sorry. But don't ever sing directly. I know that you think that, yeah. No, I don't think that. That's the truth. There's no other way to do it. I don't think that there's no other opinion.
SPEAKER_02Allie's opinion is gospel, you guys. Gospel. She is the only one that has the correct opinions.
SPEAKER_03We're in a fight. You think you're in a fight. We're not in a fight.
SPEAKER_00We are in a fight, Katie. Straight tenor theater men are evil. I'm not saying that's not true. I'm not saying that's true.
SPEAKER_03This is my opinion. It's not an opinion, it's a fact.
SPEAKER_00Not all opinions are facts.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that one is.
SPEAKER_00In your experience, absolutely.
SPEAKER_02And I am on your side about that.
SPEAKER_00Katie, ask any other theater girl, and she will tell you that straight tenor theater men are monsters. I think it's hilarious, the specific tenor of it all. Yes, that's hilarious to me. No, it is tenor men. No, Katie. This is real. Katie, this is so serious. I know you've told me many times. But this isn't a this is not an opinion. This is the truth. This is a fact. It's a fact. Faith is a fact. What is a fact? It was a joke for a rest of development.
SPEAKER_02Oh, where Jane not Krakowski. I just forgot her name. What's her face from Glee? Um, Jane Lynch. Jane Lynch was like, she's saying to George Sr., she's like, something about like, um, he's like, she's like, I know for a fact that you will, you know, get out of here or whatever. And he was like, how do you know that? And she was like, I have faith. And she's like, faith is a fact. And it's not.
SPEAKER_00I will hit the tanned trust them. I am allowing you that experience and that opinion, and I'm validating it for you. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm not saying you're wrong. I did not say you're wrong. I never have said you were wrong about that.
SPEAKER_01But you haven't said that I'm right.
SPEAKER_02Is that what you want me to say? Yes. You're right.
SPEAKER_00You're right. Thank you. Straight tenormen are monsters.
SPEAKER_03They are.
SPEAKER_00Okay. There, I said it. Now it's a fact. Now it's a fact set in stone.
SPEAKER_03Okay, thank you.
SPEAKER_00It's in the Ten Commandments, another resume development job.
SPEAKER_03What else?
SPEAKER_02When was the last time that we were like this animosity? There was something else that'll probably come out later. What was it that we were like not on the same page about? I can't remember what it was.
SPEAKER_00I can't either. Because normally we are on the same page about like media, but I guess this is where we divide. Like, yeah, like I think that's okay. I think that's okay too. I think that and I also don't think we're in a fight. We are just in disagreement. I don't think we're fighting, Ali.
SPEAKER_03We are not fighting. This is not a fight.
SPEAKER_00Okay, we're not in a fight. We're in a five left show and you hate it. We're in a kerfuffle. We're in a tiff. We're in a tiff. A respectful tiff. We're we like are in a Ali's disparaging the thing that I love. I'm letting her. Oh my god. Okay. You're like, Allie is being a fucking bitch and hating on everything I love and being mean to me and belittling me, but I but we're not in a fight. Allie hates everything that I love, and she won't let me have anything. Ellie is a condescending evil monster. Allie will not let me have John Logan.
SPEAKER_02She won't let me have one thing.
SPEAKER_00You can have it. It's yours. Take it. It's mine. No one else can have this button Logan.
SPEAKER_01I will say.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Who discovered Antonio Cipriani first?
SPEAKER_00You have covered.
SPEAKER_03Of course.
SPEAKER_02You have Antonio Cipriano.
SPEAKER_00Antonio Cipriano. Yeah. Oh, Cipriano, no. I said Cipriani, like a New Yorker. Yeah. Antonio Cipriano. I definitely, yes, you definitely would have, of course, discovered him before. But as someone who also loves musical theater, doesn't know about it personally, but you know, goes to see musical theater things, and is constantly on YouTube, and I watch a lot of musical theater clips. I have like seen him, but was never just like, oh, that guy is a good voice.
SPEAKER_01And who was watching and who was watching the Jimmy's live in 2019? You absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Absolutely. You can have that. And who was following him and Renee in 2020? And on their live streams being like, Well, they just admit that they're dating. And did they ever? They did at the very end. And then it ended.
unknownAnd then it ended.
SPEAKER_00And then it ended. They were never gonna talk about it again. And then they they pretty much finally like admitted that they were dating. I think like one of them, like I think she referred to him as her partner, and then everyone was like, Yeah, and then like a month later, they broke it out. Oh yeah. And didn't she write that song I hate Boston about him? Apparently, that's what people telling me. Probably I do know that um her one song that I I I listened to a good amount of her music like when it first came out because I wanted to know what was about him, and I know that in the kitchen was about him. Oh, I don't maybe I've heard that song. I don't know. There's literally like a line that's like, and I'll delete all our videos, or I'm scared to delete live streams. I'm scared to delete all our videos because it's real when everyone knows. Which is like, yeah, that's totally about that man because they were constantly posting singing videos together. Yeah, I definitely have seen videos of them singing together over like the years, yeah. Yeah, and like I like knew of him, but like didn't know of him as him, you know. Um, apparently he was he was in the spinoff of Pretty Little Liars like two years ago. And I was like, oh, because I was like looking him up and I was like, have I seen him on like TV before? Because I was like, oh, I know he's a musical theater dude. But I was like, he was on the show. He also was apparently on Sexizer College Girls as well, which obviously Renee was on. Oh, yeah, I don't remember him at all. Maybe I'm assuming he was just a small side part, but yeah, yeah. But he was like he was uh love interest of one of like of like the main character on Prelo Lyre's original Sin in season two. Oh, I didn't I didn't watch season I think I watched like an episode or two of season one. Yeah, no, that show was not good, yeah, but I I really Enjoyed watching it. It was like a fun time. Really? Yeah, it was a fun time. It was a fun time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't think it was good, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, I the rumor mill for a bit there was that he was also in contention for playing Tony in the 2021 West Side Story. Really? Um, which instead of if I could go back cancel. If I could go instead of cancel, if I could go back in time, I would I would bribe Steven Spielberg with the two dollars I have to cast either that him or Colton Ryan, who was another musical theater man of that era. Yeah. Oh, I think I know him, yeah. Yeah, as Tony. I would have brought and then I think that that movie's legacy would be completely different. And it would be really watched it. It'd be a million times better. Girl, we're watching it for this fucking podcast, so get ready. I'll watch it for Mike Feist. And um what's his name? I just forgot his name. Kyle Allen. I'll watch it for the two of them. I would do anything for Mike Feist, my Eatley friend. You did see him at East. I did see him in an Eatley. Summon in Italy, like two months before Challengers came out, and I was like, Yeah, oh my god, yes. I was like, I think you sent me you sent me a picture of him. I did, and I we made eye contact. And he was probably like, oh god. He literally he did that to me. I always, whenever I have seen the occasional celeb out in the world in NYC, I'll make eye contact with them sometimes, and they'll just give me that look of like no, sheer, sheer terror, like terror, you not and like begging, please don't.
SPEAKER_01And I and I didn't. I was just like, but I was like, now you've seen me and now you can dream about me. That's what I think.
SPEAKER_00I think you've seen my face, and now I will live on in your dreams. And yeah, yeah, I saw him in Italy again, like a month or two before challengers came out, and I went upstairs to all my I went up to all my coworkers and I said, I saw Mike Vice, and they were like, who the fuck is that? And I was like, in two months, you guys are gonna eat your fucking world. Yeah, they're gonna be like Yeah, they did. Challengers is excellent. Mike Vice is excellent. Mike Vice is great. There's something that he's gonna be in coming up. I can't remember what it is though.
SPEAKER_01East of Eden.
SPEAKER_00That's it. Yes, young Hamch and Florence. Florence Young Hey Mitch is in We Were Liars, which we'll do at some point too. And um, Charlie from Girls. Um ever watched Girls because I hate Lena Denham. And I won't ever watch it. I implore you to watch it anyway. It's so good, Katie. But that feels like torture. It's not, it's phenomenal. I think it will be though. It won't be. Just try it. You can't sit here and say that you love this show and then say, I refuse to watch one of the greatest millennial shows ever written. You know, I never said I wasn't a hypocrite, Ellie. Okay, fine. You know, I I own as long as you admit it. As long as you admit it. I'm allowed to be hypocritical, and I am.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. Okay, we um can I read you my takeaways from this?
SPEAKER_00Um do you have other things to say? Because I need to know your opinions, and I need to do it. I did say Justin's outfit is fucking nasty, girl. What? Girl, what? Um and then I said, why are you wearing a black bra under a white shirt? Oh, for the black party.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Why? Why would you also like it? Wouldn't have taken getting a drink spilled on you to see your bra. Yeah, how is it that visible? You'd have already seen it.
SPEAKER_01They must have had her in a nude bra and then changed her into that black bra just for that scene.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because you could not see it. I'm like, be so serious.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, every takeaway, be serious.
SPEAKER_00I will say all the girls on the show had like crazy nice bras. I'm like, you know what bras I was wearing in college? Target. I'm like, what is this?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it's also it's also not like Hannah has any money, she has three jobs. Yeah, these nice bras that she's getting.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, I know that bra was $90 minimum. Yeah. To wear under a white t-shirt? What are you doing? No, thank you. T-shirt bra, babe. Yeah, that's what they're called. That's why they're made.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Also, Justin was like, Hey, you okay? It's like, you have a wet shirt on now. Now I make it.
SPEAKER_00Justin is so like if I see if I ever saw like uh like his entire outfit was like an ick for me.
SPEAKER_01I was like, I can't take this seriously.
SPEAKER_02He's he's too cool, guy for you, Ellie. You're like, I'm not into it. Because he like knows that he's cool, and you're like, I don't like that. That is like the grossest thing a man can do is know that he's cool.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Um, that actor Josh Houston, so hot, but he I first saw him on Heartbreak High, which is a Australian like teen drama that's on Netflix. It's so funny, and he's like is it supposed to be funny? Yes, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah. Drama comedy, the main girl, she's insane, truly insane behavior at all moments of every day that she exists.
SPEAKER_02Um, but it's so funny because his character on that show, his name is Dusty. And every time that I was watching this, I was like, I kept being like, what's his name on the show? I kept thinking Dusty. And I was like, Justin.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm gonna call him Dusty.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and yeah, first time I saw him on the show, I was like, Oh my god, that man's really hot. Yeah, yeah, he's got good hair. There's there's a lot of good hair in here except for the bad dye job. Yeah, everyone has amazing hair. The the curl budget, curl budget, hair looks great, like you know, the only the John Logan's hair looks amazing. Oh my god. Although they did like blow his hair out.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why they his hair is way like wavier curly than what they had on the show, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um also did he have highlights too? Also, he was so tan. He's Italian, he is Italian, Antonio Seppriano, Antonio Sepriano, Antonio, Antonio, but I see him not as tan as that, and I'm like, Tony, Antonio, Antonio. I love the music from West Side Story, and if we had a cast recording with Antonio Cipriano on it, I would be in heaven. That'd be great. I'm sure he's covered Maria. You should look it up. Probably, yeah, I'm sure he has. Yeah, I've been down a rabbit hole about him the last like week and a half. It's crazy. Wait, so you hate what but you love the music from West Side Story? No, yeah, no, I think West Side Story is great. I just think it's like generally speaking, it's racist, and I don't like to watch it. I like the music, yeah, and I I've seen the original movie and I'm like, I get it, but it's fucking racist, and I don't I don't like that. I do think the music is great, yeah, yeah. That's also the reason why I don't like it, and not to say that like the new one is hopefully less racist, but you know, that's that's that's my qualm about it is the racism, the blatant racism of the original movie. Because of like the the makeup, yeah. But like the story itself. I mean the story is Romeo and Juliet, so yeah. Okay, so you just don't like the the like the casting and the the makeup. I find it very offensive. I don't know. It's like the story or the casting and the makeup. Casting the makeup, sure. I I have nothing wrong with the story. Okay, then I think that the fur that the remake remedies that. Okay, all right, all right. Alright. Yeah. I thought you thought that the story itself was.
SPEAKER_02I mean, not to say that it's not a little bit, but that's fine.
SPEAKER_00Okay. That's fine. I can find we I excuse I can excuse racism, but I draw the line of anti federality.
SPEAKER_02Ellie can excuse racism.
SPEAKER_01We also reference that in the next episode now with Laura. We don't.
SPEAKER_00That's like one of the excuse racists. We can excuse racism. That's the best quote from community. But what was it that we can excuse racism?
SPEAKER_02But wait, what was it we couldn't excuse? I can't remember.
SPEAKER_00Well, we were talking about um shoes on the bed. That's right. We're like, we can excuse racism, but not shoes on the bed. And Laura was like under the covers. And Laura was like, clearly, these Asian women were raised by a white man. And I was like, I have to defend my race for one second on this one thing. I was like, I'm not defending anything else, but like I will, like, that is crazy behavior. Like, that's not Ellie. Is talking about white rights.
SPEAKER_02You heard it here first, folks. She's talking about the rights of white people.
SPEAKER_03I thought I think that they were being racist toward white people, and I just had to stand up. I had to defend.
SPEAKER_02Ellie thinks reverse racism is a real thing.
SPEAKER_03That's crazy. Ellie can defend racism. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wait, do you have more takeaways?
SPEAKER_02Because I have a lot.
SPEAKER_00I'm scared to say anything. I told you we're not in a fight. Tell me what else you have to say. You know what?
SPEAKER_03White silence is white violence.
SPEAKER_02She feels she, Allie, a white woman, feels personally victimized right now. Except I feel personally victimized.
SPEAKER_03I just said white silence is white violence, so I'm going to speak. White silence is white violence. I feel awful for laughing. I feel like I'm gonna get canceled.
SPEAKER_02But remember, you said three people have listening. They know it's a joke. Oh my god. And we can laugh about it because we are not two white people. That's true. I am not a white person. I have white in my family, but I am a fine person.
SPEAKER_03This is okay. It's okay. This is okay. Making excuses.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god. Okay, I'm really scared. Okay. Um just tell me what else you have. And then that was it. That was it. Okay. Is it actually? Yeah, no, it actually is. Okay. Okay. So you go now, and I'm gonna be sign, and I'm not gonna speak. I'm gonna, I'm I understand that I'll never understand, and yet I stand. You you'll understand some of these because also 50% of these are about Logan. Okay. So you could understand them. So did you rewatch the pilot and this is just about the pilot? Or did you I'm ready. But but Logan overall.
SPEAKER_02Chef's kiss. Yeah, yeah. Also, and because I read his book, the show character so so much better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so much better. And likable and believable, and much more of a lover boy. This series is very similar to Bridgerton in that it is an anthology love series with a lot of tropes. Um I mean Bridgerton, every single trope ever, too. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, he literally did Cinderella. Yeah, but similarly, I have not read the Bridgerton books, but the people I know who have say that the men are evil in the books. I I read the first one, yeah, and then was like, I'm not reading any more of these books. Yeah. There, I don't even talk about there. There was one scene that I could not believe what I was reading.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but crazy, crazy.
SPEAKER_00So this is very this is Bridgerton. This is this is what us Americans get. Bridgerton. The British, yeah. We also don't get adults, we get college kids. The British is this like beautiful, elevated, refined. We get fucking Julie Andrews narrating, we get these like award-nominated actors, we get and then in America, in America, in America, we get these fucking college kids. We get fucking college kids who I love.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Are you ready?
SPEAKER_00Like, sure.
SPEAKER_02I don't think you're ready.
SPEAKER_00I'm not actually.
SPEAKER_02I don't think you're ready for this jelly.
SPEAKER_00For what? I don't think you're ready for this jelly. What are you saying? You wrote a song. No, uh Katie, who are what is happening uh today?
SPEAKER_02Uh I don't know. What's funny is that I've I felt unhinged for the last two weeks, so maybe that's it.
SPEAKER_00For the general public, this is only our like 11th episode. That's fucking crazy. They don't know that like we've recorded so many more, so it's like they're like, wow, they must really hate each other. It's like, well, no, we're actually just on like our 20th episode.
SPEAKER_02We legit are. So it is honestly crazy that only 10 episodes have been out. We've recorded so many fucking episodes, so many, it's insane.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay, but no, we do not hate each other, and again, we're not a fight. I mean, sure. Okay, Allie wants to fight. She wants to fist fight me.
SPEAKER_00I wanna enact she didn't disagree. You're like, wow, the white girl is being a bitch. She's enacting violence. I'm enacting violence. Enacting violence.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry. Okay, go. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I can't do math. Oh, okay. Go, go, go. Oh, oh, we have like 10 minutes. Okay, we're good. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, okay, major takeaways. Okay. When Hannah sees Garrett in the shower, him fully turning around, and her just staring at his junk.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Unabashedly. Okay, great. Um, Garrett's tattoo translates from translates from Latin to there is no free lunch. That is a tattoo across his back. There is no free lunch. Do we understand what that why he has that later?
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_00Is it a real reason? Can you tell me the reason? Is that he believes that he should work for everything that he gets and like should not be handed it?
SPEAKER_01Okay. I don't know we needed to use that phrase, but okay.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Like, I get it. Yeah, there is no such thing as free lunch. I get it in real life.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, because you know, so in the scene where he fails that exam or test or whatever paper, Bo, who's sitting next to him, adorable, um, is like, oh, I'm sure you know the coach can talk to the professor and get you a better grade.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the reason he wants Hannah to tutor him is because he wants to earn the grade.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he doesn't want his coach to you know strong arm a teacher into giving him a better grade. He actually wants to earn it. So okay, Gare Gare, gar gar. Okay, G. Okay, G. Okay, okay, GG. GG. What is GG? Oh my god, all the guys call him G, and I'm like, they should have been calling him Gigi. That would have been so cute.
SPEAKER_03GG. GG.
SPEAKER_02Um, Gargar. I was just reading this. These are just statements. Logan under underneath the sink being Mr. Fix It, Chef's Kiss. Um, Justin Cole is so hot. And every time I already said this, but every time Hannah looks at him, she looks like she's having an orgasm and she needs to close her eyes.
SPEAKER_00Well, maybe she is. Maybe she is. Literally, she was watching him and like basically like had her finger in her mouth and was like biting it, looking at him. Basically, that's what she was doing. I was like, you know what? I was doing that in many scenes during the show. Like when I thought the boys were about to get a little frisky when they were doing their workout.
SPEAKER_01I was like, oh.
SPEAKER_00And that workout, I think about that a lot. Um, Tucker is so cute. Um, Mateo, thank you for that. Oh my god, I love um Tucker and simultaneously, as you'll see throughout the rest of the season, he simultaneously gives mother and baby girl. He's perfect. I love him.
SPEAKER_02I love him.
SPEAKER_00I love that.
SPEAKER_02I would love him and Mateo to like meet somehow. I know they're not in the same city.
SPEAKER_01I love that Mateo is like hot, and then in this show, he's baby girl, like range.
SPEAKER_00He is so baby girl. It's it's the lack of facial hair. He didn't have facial hair in the first season of The Pit. Oh, I guess you're right. He didn't came back in season two because he drank the elixir that the night shift gets that makes him hotter and chiller. Yeah, even though he was actually in college filming this. Yeah, that's where he was. He went back to school. He did go back to school. Love that for him. Love that for him. Um, this workout montage was made for the female gays, and I say thank you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, thank you.
SPEAKER_00And I've watched it many times, and I'll probably watch it over and over again. Um, Logan in a bandana working out, and Tucker slapping his ass. Thank you. Um, Hannah not liking hockey, girl. Same. I do not like hockey. I really like not boring. I'm just like not into the violence of it. I don't care about it. I get that. I I've been I there was like a period where my dad's company had like really good seats to the like most local team, and we went a decent amount when I was in middle school, and I didn't hate it. I like that it's only three periods. Sure. Shorter, shorter than I like that it is fast. Yeah. Um it's not my least, it's not my favorite, but it's not my least favorite. It's not my my least favorite sport is what baseball. Baseball. Oh yeah. No, no, baseball's actually boring.
SPEAKER_01Baseball's boring as fuck.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I don't go to I don't go to hockey games. I just don't, I don't care. I don't care about it. I don't care about hockey guys, whatever. Anyway, no, they're all mean and ugly. Let's be honest. Let's be honest. Um, I saw the guys on the Olympic hockey team. That dude doesn't have front teeth. I'm sorry. No, they none of them have front teeth. I'm like, that's not hot. I really liked Hannah's takedown of hockey being like, I don't like that sport, it's the only sport that celebrates violence, celebrates violence, it doesn't eject its players for fighting.
SPEAKER_01And I really, I really liked that.
SPEAKER_00I was like, oh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and also Garrett had no comeback for that because he was like, he was like, oh shit. Yeah, oh you're right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I really liked that. That was that was one of my favorite parts. Yeah, yeah. Um, Logan and Garrett having heart to heart. I love a male friendship. They're besties. You will soon find out if you watch more. Um Garrett's dad's a huge dick and abusive. Yeah, and the and the only genuine thing that came out of his mouth was Logan looking handsome as ever. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, Logan's luscious locks. Again, chef's kiss.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is one of my favorite ones. Ellie's boyfriend looks like Josh Grobin.
SPEAKER_00I see that. I totally see that. I totally see that. Yeah, it was weird. When he opened the door, I was like, young Josh Grobin? They like don't. I mean, I assume they're gonna break up. Oh, like because I know she gets with the blonde guy, but yeah, they did not go together at all. No, no, no, no, weird. Also, yeah, the reason that no, he's very unsupportive of her acting career. Oh, yeah, and like wants her to like middle move to like the middle of dumb fuck nowhere for him to take over his like dad's business, and she's like, I don't want to do that. So, yeah, so um this block party looks fun as hell. I would enjoy going to that. I think it'd be fun. Live performances. I don't know, um, Garrett and Umdu Girlfriend's Graham is fully stocking Hannah on Instagram. Is that really obsessed with her?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, loved that love.
SPEAKER_00Love um Logan already knowing Hannah's name and saying that she waited on them 17,000 times. Yeah, that was sweet. I liked that a lot. My dude, um, I was watching an interview with like all of them, and one of their questions was like, Who do you think whose character is like the biggest yearner? And they were like, they're trying to say it was Justin. I'm like, no, it's not, he only wants what he can't have. I was like, it's Logan. Because if you watch the rest of the season, Logan has feelings for Hannah, and yearns the entire time.
SPEAKER_02Um, but Jalen, who plays Tucker, he was he was like, Oh, he was like, It's Logan, he has a degree in urnalism.
SPEAKER_00I was like, Yeah, hilarious. He was see, okay, I wasn't expecting him to have a thing for Hannah. Um, I thought that was speaking to the vibe I was getting that he was more like come came from a working class background. That's true though, too. And that he had the respect and like the awareness of like like he he would remember the server's name because that's how he was right. Maybe like he came from a working class background. I don't disagree with that. He definitely. Came from working class.
SPEAKER_01So that that's why I thought he knew her name.
SPEAKER_00I wasn't he comes from like a pretty, very, very different upbringing than some of these other guys for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, Dean and Allie meet cute. It's the first time they meet. What the fuck was that meeting? Weird. Because so that was not a meet cute. She was like some like meeting for the first time. There was like a lot of context missing. They must have cut that scene down a lot because he was just like in a car with this girl, like fornicating. I think it was supposed to be a photo booth or something. That was not clear at all. And she was like, Excuse me. And I was like, Why are you interrupting? Like, they're clearly in the middle of something. And then he was he did that thing that like is really hard to get away with and movie. And I nine times out of ten, it's just gross and icky, which is when he like makes out oh yeah, just like eyes her. I'm like that almost never works. No, to be like hot.
SPEAKER_01It's normally creepy and really weird, and it's creepy and weird.
SPEAKER_00Also, really weird to the person you're actually making out with. Yeah. You're just like looking at someone else. Like, what the fuck? No, that was weird. I did not care for that scene. I was like, what they they cut it down too much. I was missing a lot of context. But yes, sure. But that is the first time that they technically meet.
SPEAKER_02Um these last ones um are just about Logan and it and Antonio. Antonio. I literally wrote, TV, John Logan could hit me with the car, and I'd say thank you.
SPEAKER_00Um, Antonio Cipriano's gigantic sleepy eyes have ingrained themselves onto my soul.
SPEAKER_02Um I'm in love with him.
SPEAKER_00I I clearly clearly. And this last one. Oh my god, was I high when I wrote this?
SPEAKER_02Um, it says, when I look at John Logan, I feel hydrated, my skin is clear, and my craps are watered.
SPEAKER_00Your what's watered? Craps. I know I was doing it. Oh my god. Um yeah, that's funny.
SPEAKER_03Wow, I'm really happy for you.
SPEAKER_02I you know, if anything, if anything, I think I love John Logan more than like this ship.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00I also think I love Antonio more than I love John Logan, which I love a lot. Maybe I do need to keep watching. I obviously was like, wow, he yeah, he's like really hot, but like nothing like in a TV show, it's so much weird. It's like it's not nothing's gonna work for me unless they like do something. Yes, like I need to see he does something, but if I have to like if no, but there are some really, really great Logan scenes later. Do they all call him Logan? Yeah, oh okay. Well also well, they call him Logan because both him and Tucker named John. Oh, John Tucker Must Die? Yeah, that's what I also thought. Yeah, John Tucker and John Logan. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Which also I'm like, wait, when did John Tucker Must Die come out? Because when did she write this book? I was like, why would you name a character?
SPEAKER_00John Tucker Must Die. That came out in like 2006. In 2006, yeah, girl, why are you naming your character John Tucker?
SPEAKER_02No, give him a different first name. I mean, honestly though, to be fair, I live in a world where so many people have my same name. So, like, it's not to say that there wouldn't be two people with the same name, but also then Tucker?
SPEAKER_00No, but but in the way in the in the I'm sure John Tucker Must Die exists in this universe. Is a name that already exists in the cultural conversation. Exactly. So then why would you name your character that? Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, just give him a different last name. Like sometimes a even like that movie obviously isn't like the best known movie, but the fact that the movie's called John Tucker Mustang. Yes, means that that's it's kind of like how I realized that um Dr. Green's daughter in ER is named Rachel Green. And you're kind of like, oh, but it's like the time frame kind of work where you're like, I see why they didn't like it was that was kind of before, and I see why they didn't notice that. But it's one of those you just have two like characters named Rachel Green at like the same time.
SPEAKER_02That was also like when I mentioned in the future when we did when we do the host, um mentioned uh Stephanie Myers' son, she named Seth Seth Meyer.
SPEAKER_00Seth Meyer. And I'm like, why would you do that? Yeah, why would you do that? Why not? I don't know. I'm naming I'm naming my son after Seth Myers, Myers. Absolutely, and you're like, I'm changing, he will have the last name Myers. Yeah, and they're gonna be like, Why is his last name Myers? And we're gonna be like, because it's after Seth. I don't know what do you mean. Duh. Duh. Duh. And you're like, here's my other son, Stephen Colbert. Rip.
SPEAKER_01Oh that's me like at my most like liberal max saying. Like, I love I love Stephen Colbert.
SPEAKER_02Ellie just said liberal maxing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, is that a problem? No, I just like I I hate that liberal maxing? No, just the whole living out. That's a thing now. Okay, when I'm living out, I love you can do that. Yeah, but no, I just I hate the adding the maxing.
SPEAKER_02There's so many, like we do so many stupid things in our society of like totally that's the they're like this.
SPEAKER_00Is the thing now, you know how it was like six seven, now it's like maxing. I mean, to be clear, for people our age, it was never six seven. It was never six seven, I still don't know what it means. Me, I don't think it means anything. I remember being like young and being like, when I get older, I'm not gonna be one of those. Like, I'm going to stay up to date. I'm always gonna like know what's in the cultural conversation. And now that youths were saying six seven, and I was like, and I don't want, I don't want to fucking know. No, don't tell me you don't need to know. I don't want to know. Oh, oh god. Okay, take me out of it.
SPEAKER_02I am removing myself from the conversation. I take me out of it, it's none of my business.
SPEAKER_00Please, please take me out of this narrative, or what's the line? I'm erasing myself from this narrative. That was Taylor Swift, right? Erasing myself from this narrative is Eliza Hamilton from Hamilton. Okay, and then not me, not me giving credit to Taylor Swift for that. But no, Taylor, Taylor Swift, right around the same time, said something like that, though. No, she did, she said something narrative. She was like, I please remove me from this narrative, which you have. I don't remember. Yeah, um, I don't remember what it was about. I don't care. It was about Kim Kardashian.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_00Their beef. Remember that? Not really. Oh, oh my god, Taylor Swift has not forgotten about it. I mean, I love a girl who holds a grudge, so do I. Me too. Me too. Don't hold grudges are liars.
unknownLike, come on.
SPEAKER_00Wait, I have this. I found this TikTok um yesterday, which is I sent it to my friend Allie, and I said, next time my mom asks me what I mean when I say I'm only culturally Catholic, and it says Catholic maxing. Sorry, drinking wine, eating carbs, talking about something that happened years ago because I'm still not over it, singing, confessing secrets, telling my friends everything they did isn't even that bad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Holding grudges is very Catholic. Holding grudges. That's why there's such a thing as Catholic guilt. Holding grudges. I love holding grudges. I love to hold a grudge. If you commit a sin against me, I will not forget it. And that's and that's on Capricorn. Yep. I'm a Capricorn Catholic. I have not forgotten anything. I'm technically, technically a Capricorn Catholic. Culturally Catholic. Yeah, but I am not culturally Catholic. I am culturally Catholic. Yeah, I'm not an active person. I'm not, yeah. I was only baptized. So oh, I was confirmed. I was not. So that's why I say technically. Technically. I am if you wanna, if you wanna even include those. Confirmed. But I was you know baptized against my will. Please call me by my confirmation name. All of a sudden. Cecilia. Cecilia! Cecilia! You'll break in my heart. Yeah. Are we gonna get um sued for singing that song? What song did you sing? I don't know. Cecilia. By who? What song is that? I literally have no idea who sings that song. Well, I sang West Side Story. I sang something else too on this podcast today.
SPEAKER_02I mean, we're so popular. We might get sued.
SPEAKER_00Oh I have an I have a note on that actually after we wrap.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I love that.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Um, okay, wait, shit. Okay. Um, we still need to do our usual.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Oh.
SPEAKER_02Um and I already know the answer to who's our PETA is John Logan.
SPEAKER_00It's John Logan. John Logan all day and all night. And Gail, I don't know, Justin. Yeah, I think that works. Or it's like Allie's boyfriend who she's gonna break up with. Yeah, I really don't like Sean. He gives off like an icky vibe. And also, not that like there's anything wrong with looking like Josh Grobin, but I just can't get over how much he looks like him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he really does.
SPEAKER_00Very weird, especially if he had like longer hair, like even a little bit longer, he would be like literally a copy and paste of him. Well, Josh Grobin is tall though. He is very tall, you're right. So this is literally like I'm trying to think of what age Josh Grobin would be that short, like that much shorter. Like a 14-year-old. Yeah, like 14. Yeah, that's a 14-year-old Josh Grobin. Yeah, okay. Okay, great. Yeah, we can yeah, we can do Justin or Sean for Pita. That was I mean for Gail. Jesus Christ. Gail. Um yeah, because Pita's obviously John Logan. Um and also I can give it to Hannah. I love Hannah. Um she's great. Maybe you didn't get that from the first episode, that's totally fine. By the end, I love her. I love her. Actually, I love all these characters, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um it's but it'll be John Logan. Um I don't want to ask you what your aid has to be. And would you recommend it? Because you clearly wouldn't.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna give this.
SPEAKER_02Remember, we're not fighting.
SPEAKER_03Um, I'm gonna give this the pilot.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00One point five. Green room babe, grand pianos.
SPEAKER_02It is so fucking rude.
SPEAKER_00You knew that this was you agreed to it, but also you know what? Who doesn't love a good discourse? I did agree to it, and but I don't think you knew I was gonna hate on it. I know, I know that, I know that. It was just it was hard for me to stomach. At least you didn't disagree with me about the love of my life, John Logan. Um, yeah, you enough about that man. You don't, you also didn't disagree with me about Antonio Cipriato at all, so thank you for that as well. No, I mean I was I was in that like I was you were you were there for you were there before. I was in a man. I respect it. Yeah, I respect it, and I'm in love with him.
SPEAKER_01Good for you, I'm happy for you.
SPEAKER_02You you really don't want to see my um YouTube history the last two weeks. It's insane, it's just him.
SPEAKER_00Um, I have no judgment on that because it's no literally watching. You know what my TikTok history is? Like, yeah. Ah, sorry, I just opened it accidentally. I didn't mean to. I was watching clips of this Christian version of high school musical that he was in a year or two ago because it was insane.
SPEAKER_02And he sang this incredible song, and I loved it. And I was like, why am I watching this? It was just so it was just too good. It was too good.
SPEAKER_01I I have no judgment. I've been down that road.
SPEAKER_00Thank you.
SPEAKER_01I I get it, I see you, and I yeah, they and I'm validating you.
SPEAKER_02I also remember it was like a month or two ago, I randomly saw a video from the show In Pieces, which I didn't hadn't heard about, but it was like a clip of him and whoever the woman is in that show singing a song.
SPEAKER_00It was like, oh, this is a really great song. What is In Pieces? Um, but it was a musical that like came out like last year, it wasn't on Broadway, like yeah. Um but they were doing like a workshop or something like performing like all the songs, um but they did like the whole show, and it was like available, it was like they recently made the recording of the show like available. Yeah, I rented that shit and I watched the whole thing, and Antonio's songs are so fucking good. I believe it. I can't handle it. He's really good, he's so good. Go watch him in the Jimmies. I forgot what he sang. The Jimmies. Let's love Jimmies.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I love the Jimmies. Have you seen Andrew Barthfeldman's The Jimmy song?
SPEAKER_00No, but I love him.
SPEAKER_01You know, oh my god, it is so I like watch that semi-regularly.
SPEAKER_00You know he's so funny. He's you know what I watch semi-regularly. Have you seen the video of um uh Jeremy Jordan singing um Celine Dion? It's all coming back to me now. No, oh my god, you need to watch it immediately. He was at 54 below, and it is an incredible cover of the Celine Dion song. Um, and literally like seven minutes long, because that's how long that song is. Maybe it's even like 10 minutes long, very long. Um, yeah, send me, send me, yeah. Him and the Jimmies, yes, him and the Jimmy's and I mean she sent it. I'm also I'm sending you Andrew Barthvelman's. Thank you. Because his Jimmy's is there's so many phenomenal Jimmies. Um also the boy who won like last year or the year before did let I don't actually don't know if he won, but he was a finalist and he did let them hear you from ragtime, and it was fucking phenomenal. Oh, that's um also if you haven't seen Renee now, Renee Raps Jimmy. Uh oh, I'm sure it's also here, it's right here. I'll just send you that one. Thank you so much. I will watch all of them. Um yeah, yeah. Now I'm gonna watch Andrew Bart's after. I'm gonna I'm gonna send a send you Jeremy Jordan. Um this I literally like watch this once every couple of months.
SPEAKER_02It's so amazing. Okay, um, because you need to rate this episode.
SPEAKER_00Sorry. Um rating it I'm gonna say it to my heart, four to five um John Logan bandanas. I'm rating it as a whole, Allie. You were rating it only from the pilot. You gave it a one and a half, and I you know don't agree with all that.
SPEAKER_02Allie has crawled into a hole under the earth. I'm basing out the whole season.
SPEAKER_00I'm basing out the whole season. I'm happy for everyone happy. And I loved it. And I'm not a hair, I loved it, and it's healed something in me.
SPEAKER_01I'm not here. I'm happy for you, and not everything is for everyone.
SPEAKER_02It's in my heart very happy.
SPEAKER_00I don't think that this that is what this is, but I we agreed it didn't have to be. Not for you, not for you, not for me, not for you. It did not make me happy, it made me wildly uncomfortable. Made me wildly unhappy. It made me unhappy.
SPEAKER_02This made me incredibly happy, and many other feelings that we don't need to share in here. Oh, um I don't need to say that.
SPEAKER_00Um, you're like, okay. I'm like, so girl, girl, calm down.
SPEAKER_02Great. Oh my god. Okay, so for real, next week we are doing to all the boys I loved before. I'm sorry, we sorry we lied to you last time.
SPEAKER_01Another Vancouver.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, another Vancouver, another trope, fake dating. Yes, another fake dating. Another fake dating, falling in love.
SPEAKER_02I saw this one, saw this one um threads thing where someone was like, Why is no one ever offered to fake date me and then fall in love with me? It's like, I don't know, it's never happened to me either.
SPEAKER_00That is the thing, so that is like a very popular trope in media. Like, that's this first season, that's Child of Boys' first movie, that is the first season of Priderton. Yeah, yes. I don't think that it is ever happened in real life. Never happened in real life. Where did he even come from? It never happened, it's never, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02One person who has ever fake dating someone and then fall in love with them.
SPEAKER_00No, never, ever, ever, ever, ever happened. Understand, you know, obviously, using someone to make people jealous, that happens all the time. But like dating them because he's like, Wait, she's desirable by someone else. Now I desire her. Fuck you. And I do believe that, like, there have been PR relationships in Hollywood and all that. Yes, but I don't think that's ever resulted in love. This is a controversial episode. Um, I'm really scared, and yeah, I'm really scared. No, I'm scared of you. You're scared of me. Why?
SPEAKER_02Yes, why I told you we weren't fighting.
SPEAKER_01We are fighting.
SPEAKER_00You think we are, we're not.
SPEAKER_02We we ended on a lovely note of me talking about Antonio, and that was great, and I had a good time there.
SPEAKER_00Okay, Allie. Allie's scared. Ellie's scared. Um, we're not fighting. I love you.
SPEAKER_02This was this was a time.
SPEAKER_00This was a time. It kept us on our it kept us on our toes. Yes, you know what? It's okay that we have a discourse. It is. Friends are allowed to disagree. We can still love each other, and we can still love each other. We do. This is the kind of discourse that is beautiful in friendship. It's like I liked off campus, I didn't. Yeah, that's okay. That's beautiful. Discourse, that's the type of discourse friends are supposed to have. Yes, absolutely. Yeah, and again, state for the record we're not fighting. We're not fighting, we're not fighting for each other, you guys. We're not fighting, we're not fighting, we're not a fight, and a fight. Okay, to all the boys I love before next week. Goodbye.
unknownAnd laugh.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god.
